While there are some
grant funds available that they can apply for each year, your
volunteer first responders receive little or no direct funding from
either the state or the county.
At any time of the night
or day, they lay their lives on the line to respond to your fires and
medical emergencies, and they even remove fallen trees and other
hazards from your roadways. For the privilege of protecting you, many
of them spend their entire annual vacation taking required training;
while you are lounging on the beach with your family, they are sitting
in a classroom or practicing their skills. In addition to basic fire
fighter training, your EMTs and Paramedics have additional extensive
training required for their medical skills. [Training

Have you ever considered
the cost of operating and maintaining those big, shiny trucks? What
about insurance for their apparatus and station houses? They even buy
their own protective clothing and equipment. The ever-escalating cost
of government-mandated worker’s compensation insurance has
literally bankrupted many volunteer fire departments in West Virginia
over the past year or two, and forced them to shut down! Who will
respond to help your family if your local VFD isn’t there?
You can help by supporting your area
Volunteer Fire Department fundraising activities whenever you possibly
can.
Thank you for your support!
